Bassmaster Wildcard Tournament Okeechobee, Fl.

December 9, 2013 by Gary Clouse Leave a Comment

This Tournament was one that I know I wanted to fish as soon as I saw it one the schedule. Anytime you can have a shot at the Bassmaster Classic for winning one tournament is a good this. Add to this, it was Florida in December, made is a no brainer for me!

Practice went pretty well. I covered most of the north and east side of the lake in the three days we were allowed. It was pretty obvious that it would be a flipping tournament. There were lots of floating hyacinth and hydrilla. The lake looked pretty healthy in most areas. A couple of places I eliminated due to winds hitting them and muddying the water up.

I ended up in 6th place after two days and made the top 12 cut. Day three was a little tougher for me. I simply had worked my area to death and really didn’t have much else to go to without getting in areas that some of the other  top 12 were in. That is something I could never do.

We had 6 of the top 12 in Phoenix Boats. Chad Morgenthaler won the tournament and Qualified for the 2014 Bassmaster Classic.  The rest of the top Phoenix guys were Russ Lane, Greg Hackney, Drew Benton, Jesse Tacoronte.
